Principal Civil / Structural Designer
1. About Mincore
Mincore is a specialist engineering consultancy delivering study, detailed design and execution support across the mining, mineral processing, building materials and heavy industry sectors.
We operate within an EPCM-style project delivery framework, supporting capital projects from scoping through to construction and commissioning.
2. Role Overview
Mincore is seeking a full-time Principal Civil / Structural Designer to lead civil and structural design development across major capital projects.
This position is responsible for 3D modelling, layout development, detailed design documentation, multidisciplinary coordination and quantity take-off support within a structured engineering governance environment.
The role requires strong technical capability, leadership in design coordination and the ability to operate autonomously across complex industrial facilities.
3. Key Responsibilities
Design & Modelling
- Develop and manage 3D civil and structural models using Bentley Open Buildings (essential).
- Produce plant layouts, structural arrangements and detailed design documentation.
- Prepare and maintain Navisworks 3D models for coordination and clash detection.
- Lead model reviews and participate in interdisciplinary design workshops.
Documentation
- Prepare 2D General Arrangement (GA) drawings.
- Produce detailed structural drawings including:
- Structural steel
- Reinforced concrete foundations
- Slabs and footings
- Equipment supports
- Platforms and access structures
- Ensure documentation complies with Australian Standards and project specifications.
Project Support
- Provide Material Take-Off (MTO) development and quantity verification support.
- Interface with mechanical, process and electrical teams to resolve design issues.
- Support technical reviews, IFC issue and construction clarifications.
- Assist with cost control alignment through accurate quantity tracking.
Leadership
- Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting standards and modelling workflows.
- Maintain drawing governance and document control discipline.
4. Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or Drafting.
- 10+ years’ experience in mining, mineral processing or heavy industry projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Bentley Open Buildings (mandatory).
- Strong Navisworks coordination and clash detection capability.
- Proven experience delivering 3D models and detailed design packages for capital projects.
- Experience supporting MTO preparation and quantity control.
